Dedicated hosting

Dedicated hosting is considered high end: this is where the client owns the whole server (as opposed to shared hosting). The monthly cost for a dedicated server may be around 100 USD per month or higher. Dedicated servers are often sold to resellers who may manage the boxes themselves or they may pay a premium and have the web hosting company manage their boxes.

Managing in this sense means systems administration work and server maintenance. Some web hosting companies offer all of these services, while others may be specifically colocated or shared.

Dedicated service is where the clients run their own machines. They may have their own DNS setup as well, separate from the host other than subleasing the IP space. So this type of setup presents at least 2 layers in reporting of spam.
