At the high end of web hosting, colocation is usually a setup where the customer owns the machine connected to a network in a data center that is owned by a web hosting provider. The colocation customers are responsible for maintaining their own machine, running DNS and other services. Many colocation customers are resellers, who resell smaller web hosting solutions.
